We're not back in full swing but we have a small challenge.

Hi Friends, It's been a while since I've stopped by to say hello. Never a day goes by that I don't think of you all and our mission. As a matter of fact, I recently received an email asking for infant sweaters, bears and booties for several infants that are ill. I know that this is not exactly our mission, but helping in any way that we can, is really what we're all about. If this is something that you feel is in your heart to do, I'd love to step up and answer this call. I'm not ready to come back in a big way yet as I'm facing a second surgery... But would love to take on this small challenge. Are we up for this?

2 Girls and 1 Boy

One little girl is 7 months old and very ill. I will accept any contributions age appropriate for this baby. I'd like to send the mom a nice box of goodies.

Due to unforeseen medical circumstances, The Pink Slipper Project is temporarily putting the project on hold and taking an extended leave of absence. At this time, we are unsure when we will reopen. Please bookmark this page and check back often for updates about our return.

A note from the Owner and Founder of The Pink Slipper Project
As most of you are already aware, I have recently undergone major spinal surgery which has left me with unexpected repercussions, additional rehabilitation and further surgery. Effective immediately, the Pink Slipper Project will no longer be accepting donations or requests for services, as my recuperation demands my full efforts. Putting the project on hold was not an easy decision, and one that was put off making as long as we could in hopes that my recovery would take a turn for the better. I appreciate your continued support and the opportunity to work with all of you again in the near future.

The Holiday challenges were quite large and so many of you stepped up without question to not only make sure that they were all met, but that we had additional slippers and care kits for future challenges. I just want to assure each and every one of you that every single additional contribution to date had been donated to local shelters. My girls came in to town and along with my sister, delivered every last pair of slippers and care kits.

I wish that we’d been able to post a picture of each and every contribution these past 6 months. And along with my posting, my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you individually. However, my health just didn't allow it. Please know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wanted to share just a sampling of a few of the many contributions.

I’ve always wanted each and every volunteer to know how much I appreciate them and I hope that you all know that. Your friendship to the PSP helped us grow so much quicker and become so much more amazing than I ever imagined, and I believe that in the near future we’ll once again be strong and back to our mission.

In the meantime, Rachel will be able to answer questions for you if you post in facebook. I’ll also check in from time to time as I can.

Our 2011 Christmas Stocking Drive is coming to a close soon and we need your help!

Many of you might remember that in 2009 and 2010 we added a very special challenge to the Pink Slipper project. We provided filled Christmas Stockings to many children that would be spending Christmas in a domestic violence shelter.

This year (2011) we're doing it again. Since we're getting such a late start I've already chosen a shelter in Maine (near Rachel) and then will add general gender and ages for our local shelters. We will find a welcome home for every single stocking and then some! This is one of our favorite challenges!

We'll also provide slippers and care kits for the moms this year.  We have a lot to do in 6 weeks!

Ideas for filling stocking: Gift Cards, Small toys, Books, Puzzles, Puzzle Books, Music CDs, Toiletries, Art supplies, Hats, Mittens, Jewelry, Cosmetics, Hair accessories, Christmas Candy, Hair brush, Small arts and craft kits, bath puff, bath products, etc. Just try and make sure that what you fill the stocking with is age appropriate. This is a wonderful thing that you're doing. Just imagine the child opening your stocking on Christmas morning. Imagine the joy and excitement. Just follow your heart and the stocking will be perfect.

Please do not wrap the items that you purchase to fill the stockings. The moms will need to see what is inside and then they can wrap if they'd like to wrap.

RAG STOCKING INSTRUCTIONS (optional)

Whether you are making a rag stocking for a Pink Slipper challenge, or using it for your own holiday decor, I think you'll agree that the rag stocking is super easy to make and super cute.

Start with your favorite stocking pattern or sketch a simple stocking pattern. Ours is 21" from cuff to toe and 17 1/2 " from cuff to heel. (unfinished) 19 1/2" - 15" (Finished)

CUT 2 - Primary Fabric
CUT 2 - Coordinating Lining Fabric
CUT 2 - Batting

 

Once all pieces are cut, layer as shown. You'll have 2 identical sections, each containing 3 layers. Make sure that your primary and your lining fabric are facing out. You will not be turning after stitching.

Stitch across the top of each 3-part section - 3/4 " from the upper edge. This will give you your guide for ragging the cuff.

Fold 2 1/2" contrasting cuff to the outside. Pin both 3-part sections together - cuff to the outside. Start Stitching at upper corner of cuff - 3/4 " from the edge. Stitch around the entire stocking.

 

Clip edges, almost up to seam - approx. 1/2" between each clip. Fluff with fingers when clipping is completed.

 

Stitch on a small length of ribbon at upper cuff for hanging the stocking.

Stockings Must arrive here in the PSP studio by December 15th to give us a chance to get them shipped and to their destination on time. ~ Thank you.

We're really pleased to add Caring Unlimited, a domestic violence shelter in Rachel Terrill's neighborhood to our 2011 challenges. Thanks you for making this connectin for us! Please see our needs below. I know it's a huge challenge, but I know that we can do it! We'll also be sending personal care kits and Christmas stockings at Christmas. We'll have moree info on that later.

10 pair of infant booties

50 pair pre-school  (sizes 4.5"-6")

200 pair for 6-12 year olds (sizes 6"-8.5")

50 pair for teens and

180 pair for adults  (8-10")

 

490 total.. I  know we can do this! Thanks to all that will make this possible.

Quite a month around the Pink Slipper Project, but we're slowly getting back on track.

As we mentioned previously, we were honored o be on the AC4C calendar for the month of September. We knew that it would mean a busy month for receiving, logging and posting donations. I would never want you to think that because you have not heard from us that we didn't appreciate your contributons, or worse, didn't care enough to say thank you!

What I didn't know at the time was that I was going to have to have urgent spinal surgery. I'd started to lose the use of my right hand a few months prior, but I've always lived my life by "if it doesn't kill you, I can live with it." So I was just going about my business, praying for relief from pain and numbness when I received the news that surgery would be necessary to relieve the pressure on the effected nerves. This sure threw a wrench in my September plans, but I couldn't take the chance of putting it off and causing further or permanant damage.

It's been 3 weeks since surgery, and with the help of my wonderful family, we have managed to unpackage, log in, and photograph ALL boxes that have come in as of last weekend. Let me tell you, God is good! There were a LOT of boxes! And thankfully even more family willing to help me!

I don't want to forget to thank Rachel Terrill for being the go to person for all AC4C contributions. She has been my rock through a very tough time. I am not going to starting posting and posting and posting as my hand allows. I'm pretty sure that you'll have lots to see. The Pink Slipper Project is celebrating it's 2nd Birthday, thanks to you!

It's been a wonderful 2 years at the Pink Slipper Project, and we owe it all to you!

It's been your hard work and dedication that has made us the success that we are today. The PSP has grown more in the past year than I ever imagined possible. In addition to warming the hearts and toes of women and children living in shelters, with handmade slippers, we've also provided filled Christmas stocking, hats, mittens, and now personal care kits. It's been an honor to work with such a generous and giving community of women. When we've had a need, we put the word out and we get an outpouring of support. We haven't had one single challenge that we've had to turn away.

We do not solicit cash donatons, instead rely on contributions by way of handmade slippers, supplies and postage stamps. The response has truly been heartwarming.

I'd like to give a special thanks to Rachel Terrill. Her dedication and support is such a blessing to the Pink Slipper Project. I hope that you know how much you are appreciated Rachel.

As we celebrate our 2nd birthday, we celebrate all of you. Happy Birthday to us! I'm looking forward to another successful year of outreach with you by my side.

Christmas in July at the Pink Slipper Project!

We thought that it might be nice to add a Christmas in July event that would address the needs of our Moms/Women living in shelters. If you were with us these past 2 years at Christmas, we held a challenge for Christmas Stockings for children. Both years were a huge success thank to you! This year I thought we might add a Christmas in July event that will focus on the moms.

This Christmas, we'd like to be able to send small, personal need packages for the moms along with warm handmade slippers. Most of the women and children living in shelters have had to leave everything behind, and may arrive with just the clothes that they are wearing. A small welcome package with personal care needs can make all the difference in the world to someone that has lost everything.

Needs:

Simple Personal Care Pouches that will hold all personal care products - See the sample of one that I made easily and quickly.

Facecloths, (each pouch will have a facecloth) as well as all/some of the items below.

Mini - Travel size:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Baby Powder
Hand/Body Lotion
Toothpaste
Mouthwash
Toothbrush
Deodorant
Chap stick
Comb or small brush
Q-tips
Soap
Facecloths

Please feel free to include sample toiletries that you've picked up in hotels during your travels. These would be perfect.

How you can help.

1. Send a set of personal care products listed above. These can be found in the travel section of your dept. store or drug stores
2. or...make and send pouches - if knitting or crocheting pouches, please use cotton thread so the pouch can be used as a bath mit, eliminating the need for a facecloth.
3. or... Pledge/Send $1.00 Postage Stamps to help ship slippers, stockings, and kits.
4. or... donate new or handmade washcloths. (please use cotton thread)
5. or... donate ribbons for the drawstring pouches.
6. or... donate sample (hotel) toiletries that you have collected in your travels.

7. If you'd like to pledge an entire kit, that would be ok too.

It's hard to believe that we're coming up on our 3rd winter and holiday season. This past year has been a year of amazing growth at the Pink Slipper Project. With all the slippers that have been coming in, it stands to reason that our shipping expenses have increased tremendously.  The PSP does not not solicit cash donations, but there are so many other ways that you can help.  Pledging a $1.00 postage stamp will help us ship more slippers to women in children in need. Every single stamp helps. The next time you go to the post office.. please ask for an extra $1.00 stamp and just put it in and envelope and send to:
